Surviving the CPA Board Exams

The school's strongest bet for the May 2015 CPA Board Exam

This May, thousands of examinees trooped like ants to the different venues for the scheduled CPA Board Exams in the Philippines. The Armageddon happens twice a year, in May and in October.

The survival rate is around 4.5 for every 10 examinees, or less than half of the takers passing the board. More recently, this went down further to 1.9 out of 10 examinees, and many got horrified with the results!

Accountancy is not an easy course to take. It takes five years to finish the program and another five months to do an intensive review. Surviving the course is an ordeal; but the actual CPA Board is akin to a journey through hell.

A week or two before D-Day, most examinees would have stopped reviewing. All the learning and reviewing should have been finished by then. Any more effort beyond that time, would be tantamount to cramming, and would no longer contribute to increasing one's chances of passing the board.

Survival would most likely depend on how you performed in the two pre-board examinations that were given by the review school. Below an 80 percent average, is I may say --- suicidal.

Many have attempted, but failed miserably in the final tally with an average below that cutoff rate. Like in a war, a soldier must know if he is ready for battle or not. Ignorance of one's capability on D-Day can be fatal over the long haul.

Nonetheless, I hope everybody came out ready for battle. The results will be out in a few days. Let us cross our fingers that you all pass the board!

Break a leg everyone!
